Mushroom and Grain Cheeseburger: Delicious and healthy!

Who says that eating burgers are bad for your health? Not all burgers are guilty on bringing up unhealthy fats and calories in your body. Burgers can also be defined as a healthy food depending on the certain ingredients you are going to use in cooking your own burger. It's not the burger's fault that you burger monsters are unhealthy, but it's the ingredients of the burger that's making you unhealthy and of course, fat.

But not to worry anymore because here is a recipe for another scrumptious mouth-watering burger which is made out of mushrooms and grains! You can make this in your kitchen and can also use this as an alternative food for your healthy diet.

photo taken from www.nytimes.com

Ingredients:

2 to 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, as needed
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1 1/4 pounds mushrooms, sliced
Salt to taste
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 teaspoons chopped fresh sage
Freshly ground pepper
1 1/4 cups cooked brown rice or barley
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 egg
3/4 cup cooked chickpeas (1/2 can)
2 ounces Gruyère cheese, sliced very thin with a cheese slicer

Procedure:

1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil over medium heat in a heavy ovenproof skillet and add the onion. Cook, stirring, until it is tender, about 3 minutes. Turn the heat up to medium-high and add the mushrooms. Cook, stirring often, until the mushrooms have begun to sweat and soften, about 3 minutes. Turn the heat back down to medium, add a generous pinch of salt, the garlic and sage, and continue to cook until the mushrooms are tender, about 3 minutes. Taste, adjust seasoning and remove from the heat.

2. Place half the mushrooms in a food processor fitted with the steel blade and the other half in a large bowl, along with the rice or barley and the parsley.

3. Add the chickpeas and egg to the food processor and purée with the mushrooms. Stir into the rice and mushroom mixture and mix everything together. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

4. Begin heating a heavy ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Seasoned cast iron is good, and so is a heavy nonstick pan that can go into the oven. Moisten your hands lightly and shape 4 large or 6 smaller patties. Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the pan and, working in batches if necessary, cook the burgers for 2 minutes on one side, until nicely browned. Carefully turn the patties over and place the pan in the oven. Bake 5 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven and lay thin slices of Gruyère on top of each burger. Return to the oven and bake for another 5 minutes, or the patties are lightly browned and the cheese has melted. Remove from the heat and serve, with or without buns, ketchup and the works.

Yield: 4 to 6 servings.

For advance preparation: these can be put together and shaped up to 3 days before browning. Keep them well wrapped in the refrigerator. They can also be cooked ahead and reheated in a low oven or in a pan on top of the stove.

Nutritional information per serving: (4 servings): 285 calories; 14 grams fat; 4 grams saturated fat; 2 grams polyunsaturated fat; 7 grams monounsaturated fat; 62 milligrams cholesterol; 28 grams carbohydrates; 5 grams dietary fiber; 196 milligrams sodium (does not include salt to taste); 14 grams protein

some cartoon characters and their addiction to burgers!

"People love to eat," and that is common to all human beings because eating is sometimes a way for us to relieve ourselves from stress and problems, to kill some time while waiting, or can even be a hobby. People eat to satisfy their cravings and desires and of course, it's also the same with the cartoon characters we are seeing everyday. Like us humans, they have some cravings and desire to eat too since they are also like humans who have their own life inside the imaginary world of fantasy.

The cartoon characters that will be shown here are a certified burger addict. Like humans, they eat burgers, love burgers, make burgers, or even steal burgers if needed too!

Citizens of Bikini Bottom

http://s2.hubimg.com/u/1828237_f496.jpg
We all know that Bikini Bottom is famous among the kids is because of Spongebob and his friends and of course, Krabby Patty! The famous burger in Bikini Bottom made kids curious about the real taste of it in real life because almost all citizens in Bikini Bottom is addicted to Krabby Patty. Some characters here are so addicted to Krabby Patty, they already tried to steal and eat all of it, or even steal the secret recipe of it! I wonder what is really the secret recipe of this said to be the most delicious burger in Bikini Bottom. Hmmmm...

You like Krabby Patty don't you Squidward?

The Hamburglar

The Hamburglar

Speaking of stealing burgers, this one is quite the perfect example of a cartoon character who steal burgers but always gets caught in the end, the Hamburglar! Every time he appears, I am already thinking about hamburgers. I don't know why, maybe because of the necktie and his looks. Hah!

Anyway, The Hamburglar is also certified burger addict because of his desire of course, on stealing burgers in the whole McDonaldland. Despite of his frustrated addiction to hamburgers, he is still accepted by Ronald and his friends in McDonaldland, although we really don't know why he tries to steal burgers all the time.

Wimpy

This one is a perfect example of a cartoon character burger addict. Wimpy is a friend of Popeye whose addiction is to eat burgers as many as he can. They have complete opposite when it comes to food addiction as well as their personalities. Wimpy is intelligent and educated, but unlike Popeye, he is coward, lazy, and gluttonous. He is very tricky when it comes to dealing with burgers because he is too cheap to pay for all the burgers he eat. His catch phrase "Cook me up a hamburger. I'll pay you Thursday," symbolizes irresponsibility due to laziness and gluttony. His addiction to burgers is too much that he even use and trick other people just so he can satisfy his desire to eat burgers.

Burger King

I want you to buy my burger!

If other cartoon character burger addicts are addicted to eating burgers, well this said King of burgers who has a creepy smile is different among the others because his addiction is not to eat burgers, but to stalk people and force them to become his customers in his kingdom of burgers!

Yes he is not addicted on eating burgers, but thinking that the King follows you everywhere just for you to buy his burgers makes him not only the King of burgers but also a 100% burger pusher.

Eating burgers is not bad, but when you are started to get addicted from it, you could end up like these guys over here. Burgers are tasty and delicious, but you must always remember not to try like one of burger addicts because it might cost you your own health. Eat burgers, but also eat healthy foods for you to stay healthy.
